Solving for Multiple Notifications for One Visitor
Last updated: September 15, 2026
If you're seeing repeat notifications or Vector actions from what appears to be the same person, here's what may be happening and how to address it.
First: Check Your Segment & Frequency Settings
Start by reviewing the Segment triggering the notifications and confirm that your frequency settings are configured as expected.
If your Segment and notification frequency look correct but you're still receiving repeated alerts for what appears to be the same visitor, automated or bot traffic may be the cause.
What's Happening: Bot Traffic
The Vector Pixel uses visitor information to recognize website activity. Some bots or automated services don't retain a consistent visitor ID between sessions.
When this happens:
Each visit can appear to the Vector Pixel as a new visitor.
Your frequency settings, such as notifying once per day per contact, may not apply because each visit appears to come from a different visitor.
Automated traffic may reuse or spoof the same identifying information, which can make the activity appear to come from the same person repeatedly.
Solution: Exclude the Contact from Your Segment
If you've identified the Contact LinkedIn URL associated with the repeated activity, you can exclude it directly from the affected Segment.
Here's how:
Open the affected Segment.
Add the filter Contact LinkedIn URL > does not contain.
Enter the LinkedIn URL associated with the repeated activity.
Save your changes.
Your changes will apply to activity going forward.
This prevents activity associated with that Contact LinkedIn URL from matching the Segment and triggering its configured Actions.
Pro Tip: Block Known Bot Traffic at the Source
If the activity is occurring on a website or application you control, such as a login screen or internal tool, your development team may also be able to address known bot traffic through robots.txt or backend filtering.
